Is Your Dog Eating a Healthy Diet?
So you think that can of dog food is giving your pet all the health giving nutrients he needs, and is perfectly safe for him? You could be wrong.
More studies are showing that dogs who are restricted to an artificial canned food diet and very little natural food might be running short of vital nutrients. Not only that, experts say this artificial canned diet is also responsible for the decreasing life span of today’s dogs. Dogs of yesteryear ate hearty meals that included eggs, and pancakes, in short the sort of things you had for breakfast. And guess, what – they lived longer than today’s dogs. Dogs these days seem to have a shorter life expectancy, and the reason for this could lie in their diet.
Here are some changes you can make to your dog’s diet to maximize nutrition. For starters, throw out the old bowl and get your dog an elevated dog feeder. Elevated dog feeders have been found to not only help straighten a dog’s posture because he doesn’t have to stoop to the ground to get to his food, but also aids digestion because the food passes smoothly down into the digestive tract. An elevated food feeder also ensures your dog has very little strain on his wrists, hips and shoulders. Elevated dog feeders are available in many styles. Choose from single bowl feeders, double and triple bowl feeders, feeders with Asian style bowls and glass bowls – whatever you choose, an elevated dog feeder is a major improvement over the traditional dog bowl.
Make sure your dog eats plenty of beef, lamb and poultry. The trick here is to feed him good wholesome meat, and not that by product stuff that’s mentioned so mysteriously on the can. The fact of the matter is “byproduct” can mean any part of the chicken or lamb – you have no guarantee of knowing what part of the body it’s been sourced from.
Parsley, zucchini, and garlic cloves can be added to his diet. These are terrific for indigestion, and also boost the immune system. Freshly prepared home cooked food is just as great for your dog as for you and far more nutritious than tinned food.
Make sure any changes you make to your dog’s diet are made supplementary to his existing diet. In other words, add some natural foods and meats to his regular diet of canned food.
